Homeopathy Consultations in Ripon & Harrogate
What happens at a consultation?
A first appointment takes around 60 – 90 mins and is more detailed that you may be used to. I am interested in your medical history, your emotional history, relationships with your family and friends, your character, your likes and dislikes and your general health. The most useful thing for me is how you experience your symptoms and how they make you feel. Follow up appointments are usually 6 – 8 weeks later and take around 30 – 45 mins.
Prescriptions
There are over 3000 homeopathic remedies and new ones are constantly being found. By analysis of your unique symptoms I determine the correct remedy to initiate your journey back to health. Your remedy will usually be sent to you within a couple of days, or you can arrange to collect it.
What to expect from a remedy
You will notice changes after taking a remedy. Some people experience a period of exceptional well being and optimism. Sometimes your symptoms can intensify for a short period, if this does happen it is a good sign that the remedy is taking effect and restoring balance.
You may develop a cold or rash or some form of discharge may appear which means your body has started a clearing out process. These type of symptoms, should you get them are usually very short lived. If any response to treatment concerns you, please contact me to discuss it. You may also want to make notes of any changes and bring them to the next appointment.
Your GP and homeopathy
Please maintain your relationship with your GP. By working with your GP the two systems of health care can provide complementary services.
Acute illnesses
I am available to help with acute conditions. Please contact me by phone and leave a message. Remedies can be collected, or you may want to purchase a first aid kit or put together your own homeopathic first aid kit from the ideas on the website.
Taking homeopathic medicine
Remedies are usually given in the form of pleasant tasting tablets which should be allowed to dissolve in the mouth. Occasionally liquid forms may be given. Remedies should be taken out of the packet on a teaspoon, as handling them can remove some of their healing properties.
Instructions for taking and storing remedies
Take 1 pilule on a clean teaspoon and put under tongue to dissolve. (If not possible, in patient's clean palm – not smelling of soap or perfume!). This should be at least 15 minutes away from food, drink, tobacco, cleaning teeth etc. (with the exception of plain water).
Whilst taking homeopathic remedies its better if you can avoid coffee, menthol, peppermint, nasal drops, antiseptics, mouthwashes, liniments, laxatives, chest rubs, inhalations, lip salves, non-prescription medicine and strong smelling substances. These are all substances that can make homeopathic medicines less effective.
Try and brush your teeth about half an hour after taking the remedy. Or you might like to try non mint toothpaste such as Fennel, children's fruit flavoured varieties, flavourless Nelson's homeopathic toothpaste or Kingfisher (not mint).
Store homeopathic remedies away from strong light, strong smells, excess heat, and never transfer them to another container.
How to dose:
You can repeat a 30c pilule every half hour for up to three doses, until you see improvement. Then repeat a single dose only if the condition gets worse again. If not, stop after three doses. If you have any concerns about your symptoms please call your homeopath or your medical practitioner immediately. You can put the tablet in water and take a teaspoon of the liquid if needed.
